Named after the Lassesen that went with Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen to the South Pole in 1911. He later went with  Sir Douglas Mawson on his early exploration of the icy continent. By chance, Ken Lassesen worked with Amundsen nephew in the 1970’s Location 66° 57′ 48.3″ S 142° 38′ 41.7″ E
