Protein C is a vitamin K-dependent plasma protein . It is synthesized in the liver and is an inhibitor of the procoagulant system. CFIDS patients have too little (60% of normal or less) It is a natural anticoagulant thus a deficiency can result in coagulation. Read emedicine about this condition

• Results in an increased tendency for intravascular blood clot formation
• May be inherited or acquired (including from an infection)
• Recognized as a disease in 1981

Treatment

• Heparin
• Warfarin
• Protein C concentrates, Factor IX concentrates also contain Protein C
•  Eliminate Vitamin K rich food!  (many leafy vegetables).
