The families of pathogens (infections) that are associated with CFIDS patients are shown below. In general, CFIDS patients are prone to develop more and more infections overtime. It is unlikely that a single infection will ever be identified as the source, rather, pathogens that a person is unable to handle well are a contributing cause (i.e. a genetic weakness). All of the major outbreaks have had associated a new virus that was unknown to the local population before the outbreak.

  • Epstein Barr

The following families of infections have been associated with CFIDS. That is, people with CFIDS have more of these infections than people without CFIDS.
